Steve Montenegro |
|
 |
|
 |
Far-right Republican
extremist member of the
Arizona House of Representatives,
representing District 29. He assumed office
on January 9, 2023. His current term ends on
January 13, 2025. Montenegro ran for
election to the Arizona House of
Representatives to represent District 29. He
won in the general election on November 8,
2022. Montenegro previously served in the
Arizona State Senate and the Arizona House
of Representatives from 2009 to 2017. He
said in a video announcing his candidacy
that incumbent Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.)
asked him to run for the seat. Other
Republicans have endorsed Montenegro,
including former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe
Arpaio (R) and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
On his campaign website, Montenegro listed
supporting the Trump administration's policy
agenda, opposition to amnesty, the repeal of
the Affordable Care Act, and the defense of
First and Second Amendment rights as policy
priorities. Montenegro was an at-large
delegate to the 2016 Republican National
Convention from Arizona. All 58 delegates
from Arizona were bound by state law to
support the winner of the statewide primary,
Donald Trump, for one ballot at the
convention. As of July 13, 2016, Trump had
approximately 1,542 delegates. The winner of
the Republican nomination needed the support
of 1,237 delegates. Trump formally won the
nomination on July 19, 2016. |

Crazy/Stupid
Republican of the Day — Steve Montenegro |
"Montenegro is the son
of a Pentacostal minister, and is ordained
himself. But after he supported SB 1070, a
local Christian AM radio station began to
get phone calls from the Montenegro’s
church, saying that they were illegal
immigrants who went there, and that they had
donated money towards Montenegro’s college.
Montenegro, of course, claims it was
“scholarships, loans, and help from his
family”. Either way,
a lot of the Hispanic
community accuse him of being a sellout" |
