Justice Faces Ethics
Complaint Over
Pledge To ‘Fight For
Conservative
Principles’
|
"A complaint
submitted to the
state’s judicial
conduct commission
alleges Arizona
Supreme Court
Justice Clint
Bolick violated
judicial ethics for
vowing to continue
“fighting for
conservative
principles”
at a Republican club
meeting." |

Two Justices Are
Killing The Arizona
Supreme Court's
Credibility |
"Former Gov.
Doug Ducey
stacked the Arizona
Supreme Court with
partisan cronies,
and now we’re paying
the price with a
court as ethically
challenged and
morally compromised
as the U.S. Supreme
Court. Thanks, most
recently, to Ducey
appointees
Bill Montgomery
and Clint Bolick." |

Arizona Supreme
Court (With
Goldwater
Institute's Help)
Stabs City Workers
In The Back |
"The
Goldwater Institute
sued the city of
Phoenix on behalf of
two city employees
and the court ruled
that “release time”
violates the Arizona
Constitution’s “gift
clause.” [ . . . ]
"That argument isn’t
new. And neither is
it new for Goldwater
to make it. In a
case back in 2015,
the institute’s vice
president for
litigation,
Clint Bolick,
called negotiated
release time a “huge
and widespread
taxpayer scam.”
The difference
between then and now
is that instead of
being the attack dog
for Goldwater,
Bolick is now on the
Arizona Supreme
Court, thanks to
some crony court
packing by for
former Gov.
Doug Ducey." |

Vote Expected On
Plan To Protect 2
Arizona Supreme
Court Justices From
Losing Their Seats |
"Republicans are
moving forward with
a plan that could
prevent a pair of
Arizona Supreme
Court justices and
other state judges
from potentially
losing their seats.
Clint Bolick
and Kathryn King
face retention
elections this fall,
and both ruled in
favor of reinstating
the 1864 near-total
abortion ban earlier
this year. They’ll
be on the ballot in
November, where
voters can decide
whether they keep
their jobs." |

Arizona Supreme
Court Justice Clint
Bolick Makes A
Paltry Appeal To
Keep His Job |
"Arizona
Supreme Court
Justice Clint
Bolick was one
of four members of
the court who
decided to uphold
the state’s barbaric
160-year-old
abortion ban, and to
do so in a year when
he and Justice
Kathryn H. King, who
also voted to
restore the ban, are
up for retention.
Arizona law requires
judges to
periodically appear
on the ballot in
order to be retained
— or not — by
voters. Many of
those voters were
upset by the court’s
decision. So much so
that a group called
Progress Arizona
began organizing a
campaign to unseat
King and Bolick." |

Arizona Supreme
Court Upholds 1864
Abortion Ban |
"Arizona joined a
growing number of
states that have
effectively
banned abortions
after the state’s
supreme court upheld
a law passed in 1864
that outlaws nearly
all forms of the
procedure.
The 160-year-old
policy “is now
enforceable” after
Arizona justices
handed down a 4-2
decision on Tuesday.
However, the court
placed a 14-day hold
on enforcing the new
law, which returned
to a lower court for
further arguments to
consider additional
constitutional
challenges that have
not yet been cleared
up. Justices John R.
Lopez IV, Clint
Bolick, James P.
Beene, and Kathryn
H. King ruled in
favor of the measure
while Chief Justice
Robert M. Brutinel
and Vice Chief
Justice Ann A. Scott
Timmer were the
dissenting votes." |

Arizona Republicans
Flocked To Austin
This Week For ALEC's
Annual Conference |
"At least 26
Republican
legislators from
Arizona and Governor
Doug Ducey are in
Austin, Texas, this
week for the 46th
annual conference of
the American
Legislative Exchange
Council. The
American Legislative
Exchange Council,
better known as
ALEC, is a bill
factory funded by
industries and
corporations, most
notoriously the Koch
Brothers. It churns
out model
legislation that
caters to these
special interests,
creating templates
that are ready for
state legislators to
copy or tweak and
introduce at home."
[ . . . ] "From the
Senate, which has 17
Republicans, at
least five are:
Karen Fann,
Sylvia Allen,
David Gowan,
Sine Kerr, and
Michelle Ugenti-Rita.
So was Arizona
Supreme Court
Justice
Clint Bolick,
who is married to
Representative
Shawnna Bolick,
per a photo tweeted
by the
governor on
Thursday evening." |

Teachers Target
Arizona Supreme
Court Justices In
Elections After Tax
Ruling |
"The Arizona Supreme
Court kicked the
school-funding tax
measure known as
Proposition 207 off
the ballot last
week, citing
misleading language
in a 100-word
initiative summary
that was presented
to petition-signers.
The ballot measure
language misstated
how big the tax
increase would be
and which taxpayers
would be affected,
the court ruled.
Teachers with the #RedForEd
movement for
increased pay and
school funding were
furious. They vowed
to "remember in
November." The
activist-educators
intend to hold
elected officials
accountable for
their role
supporting or
denying increased
funding for schools.
They've thrown their
support behind
several candidates
for public office
this year who are
friendly to their
cause, and aim to
kick others out of
office. Now,
their hit list also
includes two
justices of the
Arizona Supreme
Court." |
