Rogue's Gallery: Six Shamed Arizona Republicans Are Running In 2018 |
"New Times first brought
attention to Jeffries, the former state Department
of Economic Security director, with a story in
October 2015 titled: "Quirky New Arizona DES
Director Tim Jeffries Fires 72 'Bullies' and
'Liars.'" Readers would see his name in this and
other news media outlets many times over the next
few years, whether for terminating scores of
employees, promoting anti-cannabis-legalization
campaigns, or inserting religious messages into
official emails and documents." |

Former DES Chief Tim Jeffries, Onetime Aide Sues Arizona For Libel |
"Former state Department of
Economic Security Director Tim Jeffries and
Charles
Loftus, his ex-protective services chief, have filed
a lawsuit against the state alleging Gov.
Doug
Ducey's administration libeled them in an
investigative report about ammunition stockpiled at
the social services agency. [...]
The state's
police agency in July released an audit that claimed
Jeffries stockpiled an "excessive" amount of
ammunition and firearms to "create his own police
force" at DES, which is responsible for
distributing social services to needy Arizonans.
[...] About a month later, Jeffries said the report
caused "considerable damage" to his professional
reputation. He sought $5.1 million in damages
through a notice of claim, a precursor to filing a
lawsuit against the state." |
