Attorney's Office
Drops 180 Criminal Cases
After Forgetting To File Charges |

"The Maricopa County
Attorney's Office was forced
to drop 180 criminal cases
after it forgot to file
charges for more than a
year." |

"The botched filings renew
concerns over County
Attorney Allister Adel's
ability to run the office,
which has been under
scrutiny since for weeks at
a time. |

Last month. They sought
investigations by State Bar
of Arizona and the Maricopa
County Board of Supervisors,
saying Adel's behavior is
jeopardizing cases and
eroding confidence in the

Defense Lawyers Question
Allister Adel's Sobriety,
Decisions In 3 Death Penalty
Cases |
|
"Defense lawyers in three
death penalty cases are
asking if Allister Adel was
sober or absent from office
when the Maricopa County
Attorney's Office pursued
charges against their
clients. |
|
Under
Arizona law, only the
elected county attorney can
sign off on a decision to
seek the death penalty. And
now attorneys are seeking
records to determine if Adel
was physically able to make
those decisions or if she
delegated her authority. |
|
Lawyers in separate requests
to the County Attorney's
Office demanded records to
determine if Adel acted
personally or violated
protocols in seeking the
death penalty. . ." |

Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel Faces
Scrutiny Over Sobriety, Absences |
"Five months after Allister
Adel checked out of a rehab facility, the Maricopa
County attorney is under scrutiny from her staff and
other elected officials about her sobriety and
absence from work. Top county leaders say Adel has
not weighed in on some of the biggest legal issues
facing the county, doesn't regularly attend county
meetings and has missed key ceremonial events. A
member of the county attorney's leadership team was
alarmed enough by Adel's slurred speech and demeanor
during a November phone call to report it to the
chairman of the Maricopa County Board of
Supervisors." |
