A Pro-Trump GOP Congressional Candidate Says He's A
'Lifelong Republican.' Election Records Say He
Joined Party Last Year |
"In a March 23 letter to a
precinct committeeman, Cooper says that he is a
"lifelong Republican." He also touts his support of
the America First platform and Trump. In a May 23
Tweet, Cooper wrote: "As the only viable America
First candidate in this race I am excited for the
opportunity that may come. I encourage anyone
looking to look deep. Not everyone is who there say
they are. [...] Maricopa County Elections Department
documents indicate that Cooper registered as
"Other," with "No Party Preference" from 2014 until
January 2021, when he registered as a Republican.
[...] In modifications made to his voting
registration in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013,
Cooper also registered as an independent. Records
from the Maricopa County Elections Department also
show that prior to 2020, Cooper participated in two
primary elections. According to the department's
records, Cooper requested ballots in 2016 and 2014.
In the former, Cooper asked for and voted in the
Green Party primary. The records do not show Cooper
partaking in the Republican primary that year,
thereby he could not have supported Trump in that
particular early contest." |
